Henry Lee Bethea, 70, departed this life on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. He was born on Sept. 12, 1950. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Lincoln High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, and he earned several medals during his 10 years of service before receiving an honorable discharge. At an early age, he was a member of Morris Chapel Baptist Church.

He leaves to mourn his death: four daughters, Tereia Pollard of Columbia, Sheila (Wayne) Johnson, Melissa Bethea, Lataya (Sidney) Fullwood, all of Sumter; 11 grandchildren; seven siblings, James (Milledred) Bethea of North Carolina, Leroy Bethea of Texas, Micheal (Benjamin) Bethea of Washington, D.C., Ben Bethea of Columbia, Tommy Lee (Sandra) Bethea of Sumter, Rethea (Leon) Connell of Jacksonville, Florida, and Zulean (Ivory) Hayes of Sumter; a multitude of nieces and nephews, mother of his daughters, and other relatives and friends who came to love and cherish him throughout his life.

Due to the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by all relatives and friends during home visitation at 3921 Black Berry Lane, Sumter.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, with the Rev. James Kennedy, officiating.

The procession will leave the home at 12:30 p.m.

Burial will be in Sandy Grove Cemetery, Lamar.
