Georgette Blackwell-Jones, 60, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, at her home.

Born July 28, 1950, in Clarendon County, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Russell and Dorothy Tarlton Blackwell. She attended Manning public schools and later advanced to Benedict College, where she met and married her lifelong love, the late William N. Jones Sr. She and her loving husband of 40 years moved to New Jersey and started their family of four children, Sandra Denise Jones, Cindy Monique Jones-West, William N. Jones Jr. and Benjamin Jones. She enjoyed her work which always involved working with children for the state of New Jersey. She first worked as a crossing guard and with the disabled children of ARC. In 1997, she retired from ARC and moved back home to the Carolinas with her loving husband and youngest son. Missing her career, she returned to the work force with the state of South Carolina, attending to the disabled adults. After losing her loving husband in 2008, she went full time into her first love of her ministry as a faithful member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Survivors include three children, Cindy West, William "Bo" Jones (Reenae) and Benjamin Jones; six granddaughters, Jessica Jones, Johnese Jones, Si'Ani Jones, Monique Jones West, Tiffany Jones and Brianna Jones West; one great granddaughter, Joss Johnson; two sisters, Sandra Blackwell and Carolyn Blackwell-Coleman, (Ike); two brothers, Tarlton Blackwell and Russell Blackwell; one sister-in-law, Shirley Jones-Johnson (Greg); two brothers-in-law, Wilbert Jones (Serelle), and Steven Jones (Jennifer); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Georgette will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Russell and Mother Dorothy Blackwell; her daughter Sandra D. Jones and her husband, William N. Jones Sr.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 N. Main St., with Brother Prince Felder and Brother Frank Johnson, officiating. Burial followed in Manning Cemetery, Manning.

The family received friends at the home, 1445 Morrisway Drive.
