FRANKLIN S. RIDGEWAY

Franklin Scott Ridgeway, 76, husband of Sally H. Ridgeway, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, in Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born Sept. 23, 1934, in Manning, he was a son of the late Reuben A. Ridgeway and the late Frankie Richburg Ridgeway. He was a retired color mixer for Santee Print Works and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife of Manning; a son, Timmie Ridgeway (Donna) of Sumter; two daughters, Cindy Parker (Bruce) of Sumter and Megan Ridgeway of Manning; a stepdaughter, Donna Driggers of Manning; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Missy Sutton, and a stepdaughter, Cynthia Tomlinson.

Graveside services were held Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, in Oak Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Dale Turner officiating.

FRANCES D. WELCH McCORD

Frances Delores Welch McCord, 88, widow of James Bryson McCord Sr., died Friday, Jan, 7, 2011, at her home in Manning.

Born April 24, 1922, in Tallassee, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Douglas E. Welch and the late Peggy Welch Golden. She was of the Presbyterian faith and was a former member of the Presbyterian Church at Manning where she served in many capacities of the church during her long membership, including president of the Women of the Church. She then joined the New Covenant Presbyterian Church as a charter member, where she also served as president of the Women of the Church. She recently rejoined the Presbyterian Church at Manning. She was very active in her community with various organizations. Her most treasured involvement was the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 68, Manning, where she served five terms as president of the unit. She was a Girls State counselor many times, and held other offices within the unit through the years and was also active with the state. She was the state president of the auxiliary from 1961-1962. She also served as a Girls Nation counselor in the 1960's.

Mrs. McCord is survived by her children, daughters, Sandy McCord and Delores McCord of Manning; sons, Jimmy McCord and Toy McCord of Manning, and Donald McCord (Angie) of Columbia; a half-brother, Jerry Golden of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Bryson McCord (Camie) of Georgetown, Karen Thompson of Manning, Angela Dyson (Trey) of Columbia, Donnie McCord of Manning, Alison Baggette (Bennie) of Manning, T. J. McCord of Manning and Shannon McCord of Columbia; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Harriet McCord of Manning and Anna McCord of Columbia; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at the Presbyterian Church at Manning with the Rev. Dr. William J. Holmes and the Rev. Charles C. Tyler officiating. Burial followed in Manning Cemetery. Grandsons, Bryson McCord, Donnie McCord, T.J. McCord, Bennie Baggette, Trey Dyson and nephew, Shawn McCord, served as pallbearers.

The family received friends one hour prior to the service in the Presbyterian Church at Manning fellowship hall.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mayes DuBose, Solaris Hospice, especially Tasha Parker and Nan Loadholt, for their love and compassion in caring for their mother.

DOROTHY McLEOD

Dorothy Virginia Dennis McLeod, 81, wife of Hazel Edward McLeod, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at Lake Marion Nursing Center in Summerton.

Born in Alcolu, she was a daughter of the late Louie Pressley Dennis and Mary Ethel Logan Dennis. Mrs. McLeod was a member of Home Branch Baptist Church and was the retired owner/operator of Highway 15 South Upholstery.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Lake Marion Nursing Center for their excellent care of Mrs. McLeod.

Surviving are her husband of Sumter; two sons, Joseph Edward McLeod and wife, Nancy, and Allen R. McLeod and wife, Cissy, all of Sumter; four daughters, Mary Louise Hodge and husband, Sidney, of Manning, Virginia Mims of Sumter, Betty Diane King and husband, John, of Elloree and Margaret Ann Smith and husband, Don, of Dalzell; one brother, Jack Dennis of Rimini; one sister, Linda Friel Barkley and husband, Rudolph, of Pinewood; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard R. Dennis and Louie P. Dennis; a sister, Doris Thigpen; a grandson; and a son-in-law, Eddie L. Mims.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, in the chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Hayes officiating. Burial followed in Wells Cemetery.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.

The family received friends at the home, 4325 U.S. 15 South.
