FRANK POGUE
Frank Pogue, 92, passed away on Monday, Nov. 25, 2019. He was born in Lee County to the late Henry Pogue and Mamie Franklin-Pogue. He had been a lifelong resident of Roselle since the age of 2 and was educated in the Roselle Public Schools. After graduating from Abraham Clark High School, he began his years of service to the Roselle community in 1953 as an auxiliary police officer and crossing guard at Lincoln Elementary School (now Dr. Charles C. Polk Elementary). He joined the Roselle Police Department in 1954 and retired in 1986 as the assistant commander of the Crime Prevention and Detective Bureau. Over the course of his professional career, he was a member of the foot patrol, radio patrol and commander of the Juvenile Bureau.
In 2017, Mr. Pogue received a proclamation from Roselle Mayor Christine Dansereau and council for more than 30 years of service in the Roselle Police Department. His numerous awards and associations include life memberships in the Policeman's Benevolent Association and New Jersey Crime Prevention Association, Policeman of the Year 1973, Federal Bureau of Narcotics Training School Alumni and Who's Who in American Law Enforcement Bi-Centennial Edition.
Mr. Pogue spent his retired years as a barber cutting hair at Pogue's Barber Shop in Roselle, a family owned business in the community for more than 60 years. He had a passion for photography, and the shop was filled with photos of family and friends, fond memories and interesting stories. He will long be remembered for his love of engaging his customers in lively discussions no matter the subject.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Stewart and Albert; and sister, Elizabeth Pogue-Bragg.
He is survived by: four sons, Gregory (Rohini), Leon, Henry and Stephen Maxwell, and one daughter, Linda Harris (Norward); 10 grandchildren, Kimberly Pogue-Reid (Scott), Valerie Pogue, Matthew Pogue, Courtney Pogue (Derek), Jasmine Pogue, Isabella Pogue, Justin Harris, Julian Harris, Griselle Pogue, Mariah Pogue and Morgan Maxwell; four great-grandchildren, Sydney and Scott Reid, Carmelo and Lienda Harris; beloved sister, Thelma Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews and dear family friends.
No formal services are being planned per Frank's wishes.
The portrait of Frank was painted years ago by his brother and talented artist Albert Pogue.
In his honor, the Roselle Police Department lowered the flag to half staff. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to the Roselle Policeman's Benevolent Association, Local #99, 210 Chestnut St., Roselle NJ 07203.
