COLUMBUS, Georgia - Sara Carter Flynn and Dr. John Evans James IV, both of Columbus, Georgia, were united in marriage at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2022, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Lewis Flynn Jr. of Columbus, Georgia, and the granddaughter of Mrs. William Alton Carter and the late Mr. Carter of Plains, Georgia, and Dr. and Mrs. Mitchell Lewis Flynn of Albany, Georgia. She graduated from Deerfield-Windsor School and Georgia Southwestern State University. She is vice president of sales with VisitColumbusGA.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Evans James III of Sumter and the grandson of Mr. Joe John Stephenson and the late Mrs. Stephenson of Winnsboro and the late Mr. and Mrs. George Coggin James of Sumter. He graduated from Wilson Hall and The Citadel and received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Greenville. He is a pediatrician with the United States Army at Fort Benning.
The Rev. Grace Burton-Edwards officiated.
Music was provided by Mr. Rick McKnight, organist.
Escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore an ivory Kelly Faetanini gown, a cathedral veil borrowed from her cousin, Catherine Booker Jones, and an heirloom headpiece of delicate pearls worn by her paternal grandmother on her wedding day. The stems of her bouquet were wrapped in a silk sash made from her mother's wedding dress.
Bridesmaids were Cameron Kae Carter, Jane Margeson Flynn and Anna Usry Person, all cousins of the bride, Stephanie James Gould, sister of the bridegroom, Margaret Elizabeth DuVall and Hailey Lynn Henderson.
The bridegroom's father served as best man. Groomsmen were Dr. Phillip David Gould, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, Mitchell Lewis Flynn III, brother of the bride, George Coggin James III, Connor Daniel Stephenson, Dr. Joseph John Stephenson, Matthew Scott Vanvick and William Phillips Vanvick, cousins of the bridegroom, and James Darrell Dailey III.
Caroline Vanvick Dempsey, cousin of the bridegroom, and Kim Carter Fuller, aunt of the bride, served as readers.
The bride's parents held the reception at The Illges Woodruff House.
The bridegroom's parents held the rehearsal party at the Chattahoochee River Club.
Following a wedding trip to Jamaica, the couple resides in Midland, Georgia.
