Letter to the editor: Floyd would be a great Sumter senator for District 35

Posted

There is a runoff for the state Senate in District 35 on this coming Tuesday, June 25. I served over three decades in the state Senate representing Sumter, so I understand how important this is to our community.

We are fortunate to have a fine candidate for the state Senate, District 35 - Dr. Austin Floyd.

Austin has been deeply involved as an educator for years. He interacts with the public every day all day. As a single father, he is raising his son who attended public school here in Sumter.

He will be among the youngest members of the Senate if elected. This is a great strength, which means he has time to build a solid base as a senator. He can work with the great Sumter legislative delegation, which includes Speaker Murrell Smith and one of the most senior and most respected members of the House, Rep. J. David Weeks.

Even if you did not vote in the June 11 primary, you can vote on Tuesday, June 25. Your vote will make the difference.

I endorse Dr. Austin Floyd, who would be a great Sumter senator.
