FILTON MAYRANT

Filton Mayrant was born on Nov. 2, 1948, in Rembert, the second oldest child born to Robert Mayrant Jr. and Pauline Thelma Mayrant. He departed this life on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at his home.

After graduating from Ebenezer High School, Dalzell, he relocated to Queens, New York, where he was employed by UPS. He later enlisted and served in the United States Army, until he received an honorable discharge. He was joined in matrimony to his wife, Sharon Ellerbe Mayrant, on Nov. 29, 1993. Filton accepted Christ as his Savior later on in life and attended Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church regularly, until his health started to fail. He was a well sought after self-taught carpenter and craftsman.

Filton leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 27 years, Sharon Mayrant; four daughters, Antoinette Mayrant Lucas (Lionel) of Newburgh, New York, Tyisha Natasha Mayrant and Toy Wade, both of Rembert, and Latoya Wingate (Curlee Jr.) of Herndon, Virginia; two stepchildren, Priscilla Prayleau and Edward Mayrant Jr. of Rembert; three sisters, Gladys Bolden (Cal) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Lela Jenkins (Woodrow) and Linda Brown of Rembert; two brothers, Harrison Mayrant (Lillian) and Willie Mayrant (Rosa Lee) of Rembert; his mother-in-law, Josephine Ellerbe of Rembert; five aunts; one uncle; five sisters-in-law; five brothers-in-law; 16 grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during all visitations at the home, 4625 Black River Road, Rembert.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 7355 Camden Highway, Rembert, with Pastor Anthony Taylor officiating.

The procession will leave at 1:20 p.m. from the home.
