EVELYN SANDERS MCLEOD

Posted

Evelyn Sanders McLeod, 95, daughter of the late Edward Sanders and Helen Young-Sanders, was called to eternal rest on the evening of Monday, Nov. 6, 2023, at her home in Rembert, surrounded by family and friends.

She was born on Sept. 26, 1928, in Sumter. Evelyn's faith journey took her from Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church to Mt. Sinai Holiness Temple and then on to New Beginning Outreach Ministry, where she was a faithful member until her passing. In her younger years, Evelyn would even walk to church just to be in the presence of the Lord. Evelyn enjoyed her early morning cup of coffee, cleaning, flowers, gardening, cooking for her family, and good old time gospel music.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Melvin McLeod (Lisa) and John McLeod (Janet) of Rembert; three daughters, Jessie Hunter, Lula Mae McLeod and Delores Mickens, all of Rembert; a very special granddaughter, Jacinta Alston (Delvin) of Sumter; a very special great-grandson, Jaden Alston of Sumter, who was reared in the home; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.

In addition to her father and mother, she was preceded in death by her spouse, Davis McLeod; all seven of her siblings; her son, Francis McLeod; and two daughters, Genell Wheatley and Susan Voss.

Evelyn Sanders McLeod loved and feared the Lord and was the matriarch of her family. She helped rear many of her grandchildren and her presence and sweet spirit will truly be missed by all who knew her.

In accordance with the COVID-19 guideline precautions, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home.

The homegoing celebration service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at New Beginning Outreach Ministry, 4660 Thomas Sumter Highway, Dalzell. Pastor Edward Sanders is presiding and Pastor Rickey T. Mickens will be the eulogist for the homegoing celebration.

Services directed by the management and staff of Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter. Online memorial messages may be sent to the family at williamsfuneralhome@sc.rr.com. Visit us on the web at www.WilliamsFuneralHomeInc.com.
