Emmie Lou Welch Brown, 85, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, at Prisma Health Tuomey, Sumter.
Born May 29, 1939, in Turbeville, she was a daughter of the late Jesse James Welch and the late Doris Aletha Watts Welch. She retired from Pioneer Dress Co. She and her siblings were raised in Crosswell Children’s Home. Mrs. Brown retired from Pioneer Ltd. She loved collecting baby dolls and costume jewelry.
She is survived by three children, John E. Brown Jr. of Manning, Debbie J. Rogers of Sumter and Mark Brown of Surfside Beach; eight grandchildren, Phil Rogers, Melissa Vance (Doug), Jennifer Rogers, Nicole Holliday (Brad), Justin Brown, Jacob Brown, Brittany Johnson (Curtis) and Matthew Brown; eight great-grandchildren, Jazmine Brown, Stormy Brown, Samuel Brown, Kayla Vance, Christopher Vance, David Rogers, Lyle Johnson and Joy Ann Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Lloyd Welch, Don Welch, J.L. Welch and Jesse Welch; and a sister, Mary Lee Morris.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 2, 2024, in the Sumter Cemetery officiated by Pastor Danny Edwards.
Pallbearers will be Justin Brown, Jacob Brown, Larry Lynch, Lee Pack, Douglas Vance and Phil Rogers.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 2, 2024, at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, 3349 Nazarene Church Road.
Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
