Sister Elizabeth Rosa Butler Jacobs, 70, entered her eterenal rest on Monday morning, July 18, 2011, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, after a long illness.

Born Jan. 29, 1941, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Harrison Sr. and Mary Robinson Butler. She was a lifelong member of Bethel AME Church, Wedgefield, until her health declined. She was a choir member and enjoyed many church activities. Later, she joined St. Michael AME Church near the family home. Elizabeth received her formal education at Ebenezer High School, Dalzell, where she was a graduate with the Class of 1959. She retired from Campbell Soup/Gold Kist after 25 years of service. Her hobbies included gardening and sewing. She was especially fond of playing bingo.

Sister Elizabeth was united in holy matrimony to Louis Bory Jacobs Sr. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Elizabeth was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a caring grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was also an aunt, sister, niece and loyal friend.

Precious memories will be cherished by her loving family: husband, Louis Bory Jacobs Sr. of the home; and her children, Louis Bory Jacobs Jr. of Wedgefield, Barbara Ann Brown (Douglas) of Columbia, retired Sgt. 1st Class Matthew Leon Jacobs Sr. (Synethia) of Fayetteville, N.C., Maj. Anthony Clifton Jacobs (Ivin) of Eastover and Sonia Denise Cato (Marvin) of Collierville, Tenn. Affectionately called "Anna," she is also survived by five siblings, Harrison Butler (Evelyn) of Sumter, Joe Butler (Lois) of Wedgefield, Titus Butler (Carrie) of Wedgefield, Emily Pearson (Thomas) of Sumter and Roosevelt Butler (Judy) of Wedgefield; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Henritta (Sinkler) Butler and Lessie Mae Pearson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 325 W. Fulton St., Sumter, with the Rev. James Blassingame, pastor, eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Alfred Washington, the Rev. Lue Conyers and Minister Johnnie Mae Gist.

The family will receive friends at the home, 5110 Cane Savannah Road, Wedgefield.

The funeral procession will leave the home at 1:30 p.m.

Floral bearers will be nieces and friends of the family.

Pallbearers will be nephews and friends of the family.

Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, Sumter.
