ELIZA LOUISE PLEASANT MCCLANAHAN

Mrs. Eliza Louise Pleasant McClanahan departed this earthly life and entered eternal rest on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024 at her residence in Sumter, South Carolina.

Born on May 16, 1951, she grew up in Pinewood, South Carolina. She was the fourth of 14 children born to the late Addison Charles Pleasant Sr. and Julie DuBose Pleasant.

Eliza taught high school mathematics for Sumter School District 2 for 35 years. During her retirement from teaching, she became an avid poet. Mrs. McClanahan's works were published (2023) in her book Homespun and Heartfelt: Poems of Family, Nature, Recollections and Reflections.

She was a member of Zion Hill A.M.E. Church, where she was diligent and faithful in her service. Her relationship with God was evident in her character, perspective and in the love that she shared with us all.

Eliza was married for 39 years to Arthur McClanahan. From their union, they raised two daughters and were blessed with three grandchildren. She leaves behind eight brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, at Furman Middle School, 3400 Bethel Church Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Tiffiny Jamison-Weldon, officiating.

Interment will follow in Manning Cemetery, Pinewood.
