Edith Bethune Richburg, widow of Odonas Richburg Sr., died Monday, March 7, 2011, at her home.

Born June 24, 1930, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Adell Thames Bethune. At an early age, she joined Mt. Zero Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member for numerous years. She recently joined Manning Church of Christ. She attended Clarendon County public schools. She worked for Clarendon Memorial Hospital and retired after 26 years of service in 1995. She also volunteered with the NAACP and the Grandparent's Program of the Clarendon County School District 2 Family Resource Center.

Survivors include two daughters, Edythe Richburg-Holliday of the home and Lemelle Sherod of Jamaica, N.Y.; two sons, Johnnie (Julia) Richburg of Manning and Lee Ernest "Ronnie" (Laurel) Richburg of Manning; two brothers, Lee Bethune of Miami, Fla., and Dawson Bethune of Rockledge, Fla.; one sister, Leola Whipple of Lake Marion Nursing Facility, Summerton; one aunt, Juanita Pendergrass of Life Center Nursing Home, Columbia; four brothers-in-law, Hezekiah (Carrie) Richburg, Cokley (Elizabeth) Richburg, Albertus (Irene) Richburg and Harrison Witherspoon; seven sisters-in-law, Etherleen Bethune, Beverly Bethune, Angela Bethune, Edith Reed, Josephine Conyers, Oree Richburg and Frances Richburg; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 12, 2011, at Mt. Zero Missionary Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends at the home, 306 Dyson St., Manning.
