Dion Antonia Hammett, 34, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at 6 Rigby St., Manning.

Born Feb. 4, 1976, in Manning, he was a son of Joanne Billie Hammett and the late Lionell Hammet. He was a 1994 graduate of Manning High School. He served on the church choir and usher board at Mt. Pleasant RMUE Church. He was employed with Federal-Mogul Corp. for many years and later worked as an entrepreneur with CJ Designs.

Survivors besides his mother of the home include a son, Marcus Johnson of Manning; a daughter, Nija Hammett of New York, N.Y.; one sister, Anitra Hammett of the home; maternal grandmother, Pearl Billie of Pinewood; six aunts, Beulah (the Rev. Herbert) Brown, Sylester Billie (Que), Maxima Hammett, Jessie Perez, Louise Hammett and Deloris Hammett; two uncles, Carell (Frances) Billie, Curtis Billie; and a special friend, Katrina Sweat.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at Mt. Pleasant RMUE Church, Panola Road, Pinewood, with the Rev. Powell Hampton, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Brown Cemetery, Pinewood.

The family received friends at the home, 801 W. Huggins St., Manning.

LEON HILTON Sr.

Leon "Shack" Hilton Sr., 85, widower of Mary Lou York Hilton, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, at his home, 207 Walker St., in Manning.

He was born June 19, 1925, in the Bloomville section of Clarendon County, a son of the late Elliott and Mattie Harrison Hilton. He attended Clarendon County public schools. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Savior and joined Mt. Sinai Holiness Church and later he became a member of Holy Hill Baptist Church, where he served faithfully as chairman of the trustee board, treasurer of the church and the senior choir. He was a member of Spring Hill Masonic Lodge 188. He retired in 1984 from the Sunbeam/Aircap Corp., where he was a forklift driver.

Survivors include four daughters, Mary A. (Herman) Evans of Queens, N.Y., Lydia (Leroy) Fludd and Christine (Thomas) Harvin, both of Manning, and Diane (Gary) Love of Kingstree; a son, Leon (Tess) Hilton Jr. of Manning; a granddaughter reared as his own, Cynthia (Anthony) Taylor; a special niece, Etha M. Thompson, and nephew, Willie L. Thompson; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Masonic Rites were held Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, at the funeral home.

Services were held Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at Holly Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Hidden Branch Road, Manning, with the Rev. O'Donald Dingle, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Scarborough Cemetery.

Members of the Spring Hill Order of Eastern Stars Lodge 263 and Spring Hill Masonic Lodge 188 served as floral and casket bearers.

The family received friends at the home.
