Clarendon Hall switches to virtual learning due to COVID-19, other factors

SUMMERTON – Several cases of COVID-19, quarantined students, teachers out for a variety of reasons and difficulty finding substitutes has led Clarendon Hall to switch to virtual learning to end the fall term.
“We have a couple of cases of COVID and a lot of students out on quarantine,” said Kelley Wannamaker, head of school. “Some of the quarantined students are out because they’ve been in close contact with individuals with COVID at school or at home.”
Wannamaker said exams are scheduled to begin next week, and the staff did not think it was fair to give exams without all students being at school, so the switch was made to virtual learning.
Wannamaker also said that while a lot of students are out because of quarantine, several teachers are also out because of a variety of reasons not connected to COVID-19.
“We’re having a difficult time finding substitute teachers,” Wannamaker added, “and that’s due to a lot of different factors.”
Wannamaker said Clarendon Hall will end the fall term on Dec. 17 and students will return to school on Jan. 3.
