A Sumter County teen who was initially charged with murder received updated charges by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office after the killing of a Wedgefield man at American Mobile Home Park on July 7.
After further investigation, deputies say they determined that the more appropriate charges for Zyarriah Myers, 19, of Dalzell, are first-degree assault and battery and accessory after the fact to murder, said Deputy Adrienne Sarvis, public information officer for the sheriff’s office.
Myers was originally arrested and charged with murder on July 8 for her alleged involvement in the shooting death of 29-year-old Xavier Ballard, Sarvis said.
Two others, 18-year-old Jamie Golden Jr. and 24-year-old Quincy Dubose, both of Sumter, were also arrested.
The shooting reportedly happened after an altercation between Ballard and Myers, who previously were in a relationship, according to the sheriff’s office.
After the altercation, Myers’ current boyfriend, Golden Jr., and Dubose reportedly arrived at the mobile home park, and Golden Jr. told deputies during an interview that he shot Ballard, Sarvis said.
Sarvis said Golden Jr. was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and Dubose was charged with accessory after the fact.
Myers remains in law enforcement custody at Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center. Her bond was denied.
