CATHERINE STUKES

Catherine Stukes, 85, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Born Nov. 11, 1925, in the Jordan community of Manning, she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Mary Billups Stukes. She attended Clarendon County public schools.

In her youth, she accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Union Cypress AME Church, where she served as an usher and a faithful lifelong member.

Survivors include three sisters, Gertrude McDonald and Asalee Dingle, both of Manning, and Earline Stukes of Long Island City, N.Y.; one brother, John Allen (Hattie) Stukes of Sumter; and special niece and nephew, Mary Overton and Preston (Wilma) Stukes.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at Union Cypress AME Church, 8247 S.C. 260, with the Rev. Mary E. Hamilton, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jerial Dingle, Minister Eloise Jackson, Minister Loretta Conyers and the Rev. O'Donald Dingle. Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery.

The family received friends at the home of her nephew, Shippery Stukes, 2301 Joseph Lemon & Dingle Road, Manning.
