Bultman Drive closed as police investigate developing situation

UPDATE: The road has been reopened and the situation cleared.

Traffic is being diverted on Bultman Drive due to what may be a suspicious package.

Motorists should avoid the area near the Walmart Neighborhood Market and Bultman Drive shopping centers. The road is closed from South Wise Drive to Gayle Street, which encompasses Century 21, Gary’s Florist, First Citizens Bank, ERA Wilder Realty and other businesses in that stretch.

The call came in around 10 a.m.

Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the Sumter Police Department, said all businesses in the area have been evacuated and are closed until the package can be assessed.
