Police find body of teen reported missing day before, say he appears to have been shot

An investigation is ongoing after the body of a Sumter teen, reported missing on Wednesday, was discovered on Thursday.

Police officers found the body of 15-year-old Derrick “CD” Wilson on Thursday afternoon outside in the Hoyt and Nelson streets area, according to Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for Sumter Police Department.

According to McGirt, Wilson appeared to have been shot.

He was reported missing by family members after 3:45 p.m. Wednesday after last being seen on Tuesday leaving the home of a relative on Meadow Circle and getting into the vehicle with two unknown individuals, McGirt said.

Next of kin has been notified, and an autopsy has been scheduled by Sumter County Coroner’s Office for next week. Wilson would have turned 16  this Friday. 

Officers are working to determine who Wilson was with, what happened and why.
