A 25-year-old Bishopville man was shot and killed outside a gas station on Sumter Highway in Lee County Wednesday.
The incident occurred at a Shell gas station, located at 1071 Sumter Highway in Lee County, where Nashon Hickman, 25, of Racoon Road, was shot with a 9mm handgun, Lee County Sheriff Daniel Simon said. He later succumbed to his injuries at Carolina Pines Hospital in Hartsville.
This incident, captured on surveillance footage, appeared that Hickman exchanged a few words with the suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Javon Malik Myers, of Rembert.
According to Simon, the pair walked away from one another, but Myers turned around and pulled a handgun from his waistband and fired multiple shots at Hickman.
Hickmon fell to the ground, got up a few seconds later and attempted to retreat towards the Kentucky Fried Chicken nearby. Simon said he collapsed again, a couple feet from his vehicle.
The suspect then drove off in a white Sedan, and deputies and Lee County EMS shortly arrived soon after.
After taking advice from his attorney, Myers turned himself in at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Thursday afternoon. Simon said he was arrested without incident and transported to Sumter-Lee Detention Center.
Myers faces murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime charges, Simon said
This investigation is still ongoing.
