8 arrests made and drugs, firearms, stolen vehicle seized by Sumter County Sheriff's Office deputies

Eight arrests were made, $6,000 in illegal drugs and seven firearms were seized and a vehicle reportedly stolen from Columbia was recovered in a three-day saturation conducted by the Sumter County Sheriff's Office.

The saturation, which is when a law enforcement agency increases its presence of deputies to monitor and ticket or arrest for illegal activity in a specified area, took place Nov. 22-24, according to Adrienne Sarvis, public information officer for the sheriff's office.

"The amount of drugs and weapons that were taken off the streets is why we will continue these operations in the future," Sheriff Anthony Dennis said.

The illegal substances seized include marijuana, methamphetamine and cocaine. Arrests include multiple charges for drug possession, failure to stop for blue lights, driving under suspension and weapon violations.

The following individuals were arrested:

James McElveen Jr., 22, of Goodman Road in Lynchburg - possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and Violation of S.C. Gun Law;

Latifah Oliver, 28, of Olin Road in Sumter - driving under suspension, second offense;

William Dickey, 30, of Keystone Road in Dalzell - possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute marijuana;

William Fullwood, 26, of Broad Street in Sumter - possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute marijuana;

Elvira Polite, 31, of North Milton Road in Sumter - driving under suspension, fifth offense;

Denzel Benjamin, 25, of Hickory Road in Sumter - Violation of S.C. Gun Law and possession of marijuana;

Sheron Kennedy, 25, of Miller Road in Sumter - failure to stop for blue lights and siren; driving under suspension, first offense; fugitive from justice and possession of marijuana; and

Derius Toney, 23, of Bailmont Road in Sumter - failure to stop for blue lights and siren and possession of a stolen vehicle.
