MANNING – Four people were shot in two separate incidents within a 14-hour time span on Sunday in Manning.
The first shooting incident occurred between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. Sunday. Two vehicles were traveling east on Brooks Street into Manning when individuals in one vehicle shot into another vehicle striking two individuals. The shooting victims were transported to McLeod Health Clarendon. One man was airlifted to McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. The other man was treated in Manning.
“We believe that the shooting was the result of a prior altercation between the people in the two vehicles,” said Manning Police Chief Keith Grice.
The second shooting occurred about 5 p.m. near Alfred Henry and Sykes streets.
According to Grice, the men that were shot Sunday afternoon were outside a home that they were visiting when a vehicle drove by and opened fire. "The two men shot did not reside at the home where the shooting occurred.”
Grice said that the two men that were shot Sunday afternoon suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Grice also said that all four of the shooting victims lived in Manning.
When asked if the second shooting was in retaliation for the shooting early Sunday morning, Grice said he wasn’t sure.
“These were not random shootings,” Grice added. “Whether they were connected, we’re unsure. Our department is actively investigating both shootings.”
No arrests had been made as of 10:30 a.m. Monday.
“We’re asking anyone who may have information on either or both of the shootings to give us a call on our Manning Tip Line at (803) 435-8025,” Grice urged. “Callers may remain anonymous.”
