1 dies in single-vehicle wreck 4 miles from Summerton

South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal wreck that occurred Thursday afternoon south of Summerton.

Around 4:40 p.m. on Aug. 22, Vegas Poinsette, 51, of North Charleston, the driver of a Dodge pickup, was traveling south on Interstate 95, about four miles south of Summerton.

Master Trooper Gary Miller said Poinsette traveled off the roadway, lost control of the vehicle, overturned off the right side and struck a tree.

Clarendon County Coroner Jacqueline Blackwell said next of kin has been notified and an autopsy is scheduled for early next week.
