1 dead, 1 injured after shooting at South Guignard Drive intersection; police offer reward for information

Sumter Police Department is offering a $5,000 reward for information regarding a fatal shooting early Monday. 

At about 7:30 a.m., officers responded to a call of shots fired at the Green Swamp Road and South Guignard Drive intersection. 

Initial information indicated the victim was stopped at a traffic light on Green Swamp Road when a white sedan drove alongside it and fired shots before speeding off, according to Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the police department. 

A 32-year-old driver and 28-year-old passenger were found near the area where the victim's car wrecked. The driver, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene, McGirt said. 

The passenger was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover, according to McGirt.
