Extra law enforcement has been available at Sumter High School today after rumors have circulated that “something was going to happen at 2:20,” according to Sumter School District.

The reportedly threatening statement was posted on social media but no one has been able to produce nor verify the post, states a release.

"The safety of our students and staff is our top priority," states the release. "We take threats very seriously and will involve law enforcement in the investigation."

In a release, Sumter Police Department states it has a strong relationship with Sumter School District and the schools within the city.

In addition to resource officers assigned to Sumter High School, officers routinely visit schools and work with school officials to vet and respond to situations should they arise, states the release

The department also takes into account incidents in other parts of the country and monitors what impact there could be locally.
