Sumter Police search for gunman in fatal shooting

Police are seeking information after a man was shot to death after midnight. Sumter Police officers who responded to a shots-fired call at about 12:08 a.m. Sunday found Rafael Ramirez Durant lying with a gunshot wound to the upper body in front of a house on Maxwell Street.

Durant, 32, last known address 4 Cecil St., was

taken to Tuomey Regional Medical Center before being rushed to Palmetto Health Richland hospital in Columbia where he later died.

Details related to the shooting are not available at this time. However, police believe this is an isolated incident. An investigation is continuing.
