UNION (AP) - A South Carolina woman has been arrested and charged with stealing money from the water company where she worked.

The State Law Enforcement Division said in a news release Monday that 74-year-old Sara Whitmire Gilliam of Buffalo in Union County has been charged in the theft, which occurred between September of 2017 and last September.

An arrest warrant said Gilliam took the money while she was working for the Meansville-Riley Road Water Company. Her duties included taking customer payments and making deposits for the company.

She is charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent. The charge involves more than $10,000.

It was not known if Gilliam has an attorney.
