Funeral services for Phil Knight will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Palmer Memorial Chapel, 304 S. Main St., Sumter, with the Rev. Jerome McCray officiating. Interment will follow in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia.

The public may view from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Palmer Memorial Chapel.

Phil Knight, 66, was born in Sumter. He transitioned on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023, at Sumter East Rehabilitation Center. He was the youngest son born to Evola Isaac Knight and the late John Knight Sr.

Phil was educated in the schools of Sumter County and graduated from St. Jude's Catholic School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served one tour of duty overseas in Germany and was honorably discharged. He attended Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church of Sumter. Phil was employed by Burgess Brogdon Building Supply Co., Sumter, and retired in 1985.

In addition to his father, John Knight Sr., he was preceded in death by a brother, John Knight Jr.

Survivors are his mother, Evola Isaac Knight of Sumter; a daughter, Torrie Haynesworth of Spartanburg; brothers, David (Violinette) Knight and Robert (the Rev. Sandra) Knight, both of Sumter; sister-in-law, Florence Knight of Rimini; two special nieces, La Sonia Knight Jackson and Regina Knight Baxter; two nephews, Stephonos Quien Knight and William Melton; a special friend, Janet Joe of Sumter; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
