DALZELL — (Retired) USAF Chief Master Sgt. Nelson Eddy Bunton Sr., 85, husband of Lois Virginia Thomas Bunton, died Sunday, March 31, 2024.

Born in Smoaks, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Avney Leeman Bunton and Edna Chassereau Bunton.

Mr. Bunton was a member of Shaw Heights Baptist Church, American Legion Post #175 and a life member of the DAV. He was a local veterans' representative. He retired from the U.S. Air Force with 33 years of service and was a Vietnam veteran. He also retired from the S.C. Employment Security Commission with 18 years of service. He was a graduate of Wilmington College in Delaware.

Surviving are his wife of Dalzell; one daughter, Dianne Ciaccio, and husband, Michael; a son, Nelson E. Bunton Jr., and wife, Von; one brother, the Rev. Kirby L. Bunton, and wife, Patricia; three brothers-in-law, Al Thomas and wife, Bennie, and Steve Thomas, and Keith Hildebrand; eight grandchildren, Joshua and Nicholas Bunton, Amber Roland and Ashley Roland Hennessy (Michael), Caleb (Miranda), Jesse (Morgan), Nathaniel and Hannah Bunton; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael S. Bunton; a grandson, Benjamin; a brother-in-law, William Thomas; and four sisters-in-law, Betty Thomas, Nicky Thomas, Judy Cannon and Margaret Hildebrand.

Memorial services will be held at noon Thursday at Shaw Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Eddy Bunton and the Rev. Dr. Bob White officiating.

Private burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at Shaw Heights Baptist Church.
