Jertie McLean Hanna, 91, widow of Paul Ray Hanna Sr., died Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Lake Marion Nursing Facility in Summerton.

Born Sept. 5, 1932, in the Nesmith Community of Williamsburg County, she was a daughter of the late Rupert D. McLean and Daisy Mobley McLean. She graduated from Indiantown High School in 1950. Mrs. Hanna was a member of Sumter First Church of the Nazarene. When her children were small, she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at Cayce Church of the Nazarene. She owned and operated Carolina Driving School and later taught classroom driving instruction for Sumter Area Technical Education College. She loved fishing and being outdoors. Whether at the lake or the beach, the water was her happy place.

Survivors include two children, Paul R. Hanna Jr. (Joy) of Summerton and Peggy Hanna of Sumter; two grandsons, Michael Hanna of Charleston and Steven Hanna of Summerton; four great-grandchildren, Caydee, Emma, Aubree and Oakley; a nephew who was like a brother, Kit McLean; several other nieces and nephews; and her very special ride-or-die friend, Chris Jordan.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Daisy Powell and Frances Thorne; two brothers, Rupert McLean and Joseph McLean; two sisters-in-law, Oddie Mae McLean and Ella McLean; and a brother-in-law, Pete Powell.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery officiated by the Rev. Greg Pressley.

The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside and other times at the home of Paul and Joy Hanna, 1215 Brassfield Drive, Summerton.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Lake Marion Nursing Facility for their compassionate care and loving her enough to join her for midnight snacks.
