James William Demore, 80, was born on Oct. 2, 1937, in Bowman, a son of the late Henderson Clay Demore and Hattie Williams Demore. James departed this life peacefully on Friday, Sept. 21, 2018, in his home.

James moved to New York days after he graduated from high school. He began working at a laundry company for hospitals and hotels industry. He later worked at Allied Custodial Service Co., where he retired from. Before working at Allied, he met Leila Mae Reed and they were later married. She passed away on March 26, 1989. James was later married to Ruth Blake in June 1990. She passed away in 2003.

James is survived by one brother, Henderson Clay Demore Jr. of New York; three children, James E. Demore, Carolyn Demore and Micheal Demore, all of South Carolina; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home of his daughter, 1740 Mossberg Drive, Sumter.

Homegoing celebration will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, with Pastor Marie Sanders officiating, eulogist.

The funeral procession will leave at 12:20 p.m. from the home.
