The death of a Camden man found in a wrecked vehicle off U.S. 521 in Sumter County has been ruled a homicide.
Johnny Singleton, 65, sustained a single gunshot wound to the head, said Harvin Bullock, Sumter County coroner. Trauma from the single vehicle wreck obscured the evidence until after the autopsy, said Braden Bunch, public information officer with the Sumter County Sheriff's Office.
The wreck took place about 1 a.m. Tuesday just outside of Rembert. S.C. Highway Patrol originally took jurisdiction, but once they determined the victim may have died of causes other than the crash, they turned the case over to the Sheriff's Office.
The incident remains under investigation by local authorities.
