MANNING -- The Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce has announced the recipients of the organization's most prestigious awards.

Through a partnership with several local businesses, the Chamber has been recognizing and honoring residents of Clarendon County on an annual basis for their outstanding service and dedication to their communities. Individuals are nominated by their peers in three categories, and the selection of the honoree is made by the sponsor of that particular award.

Jamie Mathis, owner of Brunson's Pharmacy in Manning, was chosen as the 2018 Business Person of the Year by Bank of Clarendon and the Chamber.

Gloria Joseph, who retired several years ago from Clarendon Memorial Hospital after working at the health care facility for more than 20 years and past president of the Summerton Rotary, was chosen as the 2018 Citizen of the Year by FTC and the Chamber.

W. Louis Griffith, who retired earlier this year from Bank of Clarendon as its chief financial officer, was named the 2018 Ambassador of the Year, an award that is sponsored annually by George and Carole Summers and the Chamber.

Each recipient will be honored at the Chamber's annual awards dinner which will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at The Matrix Center, 4648 Kingstree Highway in Manning. Comedian Mike Goodwin will be the keynote speaker.

Along with honoring the recipients of this year's awards, the Chamber's retiring board members as well as the incoming board members will be announced and recognized at the event.

Tickets are $40 per person and can be purchased in advance at the Chamber, 19 N. Brooks St. For additional information, contact the Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce at (803) 435-4405.
