A recent arrest of a Winnsboro man led to additional charges in another armed robbery in Sumter earlier this month.
Sumter County Sheriff’s Office arrested John Demont Mickens, 36, on Jan. 30 for his suspected connection to a robbery of a Camden Highway business on Jan. 29.
One day after his arrest, investigators served Mickens with additional warrants for his suspected involvement in the robbery of a store along S.C. 261 South and Wedgefield on Jan. 8.
According to Mark Bordeaux, public information officer for Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the store, where it is alleged Mickens entered as employees were closing and demanded money before fleeing.
Mickens is now charged with two counts of armed robbery, two counts of pointing and presenting firearm and two counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to Bordeaux.
Mickens is being held without bond as the suspect in these two robberies. He is also a person of interest in similar incidents in other jurisdictions, Bordeaux said.
