Wilson Hall volleyball, SHS softball receive academic recognition

The Wilson Hall volleyball team was selected as an Academic All-American team by the AVCA for the fourth year in a row.

The team compiled a 4.33 grade point average.

Members of the team are Cameron Duffy, Sydney Jarecki, Sarah Cain, Madison Sliwonik, Camryn Bateman, Abbie Beatson, Hayley Champion, Gracyn Coker, Madison DesChamps, Mary Claire Lee, Andi Grae Wingate and Lucy Matthews.

Academic All-Americans

Eight members of the Sumter High School varsity softball team have been recognized as National Fastpitch Coaches Association-Easton Academic All-Americans for the 2018-19 season.

The players are Emily Deas, Kadyn Dickerson, Braelynn Durham, Kailin Hodge, Emily Jordan, Gabrielle Kirkman, Kathryn Moore and Kaytlin Moore.

Middle school volleyball jamboree Tuesday

The Sumter Middle School Volleyball Jamboree will be held on Tuesday at the Bates Middle School gymnasium beginning at 5 p.m.

The first 1-game scrimmage will have Alice Drive taking on Ebenezer at 5 p.m. Furman will take on Bates at 5:30, Hillcrest will face R.E. Davis at 6, and Bates will go up against Chestnut Oaks at 6:30 p.m.

Middle school football scrimmage Aug. 31

A middle school football scrimmage will be held on Saturday, Aug. 31, beginning at 9 a.m. at Donald L. Crolley Memorial Stadium in Dalzell.

The schools in the tri-county area participating are Hillcrest, Ebenezer, Chestnut Oaks, Scott's Branch, R.E. Davis, Alice Drive and Furman.

Admission is $5 per person.
