WILLIE D. CANTY

Willie David "Dave" Canty died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Jan. 26, 1934, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Willie and Hattie Brown Canty. He attended Sumter County public schools and was a member of New Hope AME Church in Pinewood. He lived in New York for many years before returning back home in 1990. He was a self-employed merchant.

Survivors are one son, Darryl Walls of Queens, N.Y.; one daughter, Tanji Canty of Manhattan, N.Y.; one sister, Virginia Canty of Pinewood; one niece, Hilda Canty of Columbia; one aunt, Ella Brown of Pinewood; and a host of cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, at New Hope AME Church, Pinewood, with Pastor Benjamin K. Sims. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends at the home of his sister, Virginia Canty, of 9645 Stukes Road, Pinewood.
