William "Jack" Jackson, 74, husband of Carrie B. Laws, died June 15 at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 24, 1936, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Robert and Albertha Illery Jackson. He attended Sumter County public schools. He was a member of St. Paul AME Church in Sumter County. He retired from Santee Print Works as a truck driver. He worked as an attendant for Community Funeral Home of Sumter for several years.

Survivors besides his wife of the home include four daughters, Connie (Khristopher) Lester and Brenda L. Jackson, both of Sumter, Cynthia G. (Michael) Okonkwo of Mableton, Ga., and Rochella (Joseph) Ruff of Tampa, Fla.; two sons, William A. Jackson of Tampa and McGarrett (Michelle) Benjamin of Snellville, Ga.; a granddaughter, Ashley K. Jackson, that he took as his own; four grandchildren, Khristopher Garrett Lester, Micayla A. Benjamin, Camryn M. Lester and Devon M. Lester; a great-granddaughter, Taiyla J. Richburg; an adopted daughter, Shirley (Christopher) Hearrell of Sumter; two sisters, Susan E. Jackson and Bertha M. Jackson of Sumter; and two brothers, Robert Jackson Jr. of Hartsville and Arthur L. (Dorothy) Jackson of Sumter.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, John E. Jackson, Charles W. Jackson and James T. Montgomery; and a sister, Martha V. Jackson.

Funeral services were held June 19 at St. Paul AME Church, Plowden Mill Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Robert E. Galloway, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
