WILLIAM J. WOODS

William James Woods, 68, husband of Alice Grimsley Woods, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at his home.

Born Oct. 16, 1941, in Manning, he was a son of the late Lewington Bradshaw and Mary Lee Woods Samuels and stepson of the late James Albert Samuels. He was a 1962 graduate of Manning Training School. In his youth, he attended St. James Missionary Baptist Church. After he retired, he returned home and joined St. James Missionary Baptist Church. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1969. After serving in the armed forces, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years.

Survivors besides his wife of the home include two sons, William (Ralisha) Grimsley of Newark, Del., and Reginald (Veronica) Grimsley of Waldorf, Md.; three sisters, Annie D. (Robert) Johnson of Manning, Rose M. (Thomas) Murray of Lanes and Connie (Charles) King of Manning; five brothers, Sammie L. Samuels and Sam E. Samuels, both of Manning, Phil Bradshaw of Greeleyville, Floyd (Bessie) Keels of Lake City and Sam Keels of Islip, N.Y.; and three grandsons.

Services were held Aug. 5 at St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Greeleyville with the Rev. Albert Rose, pastor, officiating. Burial was held in the churchyard cemetery.

The family received friends at the home, Palmetto Point Apt. 9, 403 Alice Drive, Sumter.
