Wheeler reelected to state House District 50 seat

Democratic state Rep. Will Wheeler retained the House of Representatives District 50 seat Tuesday during the 2022 general midterm election.
According to unofficial election-night totals, Wheeler earned 7,805 votes, or 60.04% of the vote, across the district. Republican challenger Marvin Jones received 5,182 votes, or 39.86%.
District 50 serves Kershaw, Lee and Sumter counties.
Wheeler was supported by 62.92% of District 50 voters in Sumter County and by 72.84% of District 50 voters in Lee County.
He was elected for office in 2016 and has maintained the seat since.
According to Jennings Firms, Wheeler was born and raised in Lee County and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of South Carolina in 1996.
He serves on the House Judiciary and Rules Committees and has served on the boards of the Mid-Carolina Commission for Higher Education at USC Sumter, the Lee County Disabilities and Special Needs Board, the Central Carolina Technical College Foundation and as chair of the Lee County Democratic Party.
Wheeler did not return phone calls from The Sumter Item on Tuesday night for comment.
