WALTER TRUMAN DAVIS

Walter Truman Davis departed this life on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2020, at National Health Care Sumter. He was born Nov. 5, 1948, in Sumter County, the son of the late Robert "Shorty" Coplin and Ms. Annie Davis.

He attended the public schools of Sumter County, where he became well known for his outstanding leadership and athletic talents. He achieved high honors in football and became 1967 senior class president of the esteemed Lincoln High School.

Better known as Truman, he served his country for several years in the United States Army and did a tour in Vietnam.

As a member of Ebenezer AME Church of Mayesville, Truman served God faithfully as a trustee. He also worked for NBSC (Synovus Bank) for more than 35 years before retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Louise Lipkins (Leon) and Robert Lee Davis (Shirley).

Precious memories will be cherished by his son and daughter-in-law, Dexter and LaShea Davis of Atlanta, Georgia; his brother and sister-in-law, Leroy and Gwen Davis of Dallas, Georgia; his sister, Eartha Perry of Sumter; four grandchildren, Breci, Shye, Dexter Jr. and Micah; and a host of dedicated nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special thanks to his dear cousin, Janet Wilson.

Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Mayesville Cemetery, Mayesville, with the Rev. Phillip Washington officiating.

Public viewing will be 3-6 p.m. today at Sumter Funeral Service.
