ELLOREE - Violet Ophelia Roberson Morris, of Alcolu, 89, widow of Beasley Garmon Morris, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, at the her daughter's home in Elloree.

Born March 27, 1921, in New Zion, she was a daughter of the late Fallie Cecil and Susan Celestia Driggers Roberson. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by two sons, Claude Garmon Morris (Velma) of Florence and Beasley Houston Morris (Mary Ann) of Sumter; two daughters, Cecile Mae Haley (Charles) of Elloree and Ronda Morris Farmer (Marvin) of Alcolu; a brother, Hilton Mack Roberson (Leevola) of Columbia; a sister, Ileene Robinson of Sumter; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Faye Richards; a grandaughter, Cheryl Haley Dantzler; and a sister, Elvera Roberson.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2010, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Todd Fleming officiating. Burial followed in New Hope Christian Church cemetery in New Zion.

C.E. Haley, Shawn Dantzler, Stacey Rhodus, Brad Morris, Charles Wilkes and Beau Wilkes served as pallbearers, with Marvin Cecil Farmer II serving as an honorary pallbearer.

Le MELL PEARSON

COLUMBIA - Le Mell Pearson died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, at Palmetto Health Richland.

Born Sept. 27, 1958, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Joe Pearson Sr. and Josephine Viola Clark Pearson. Her attended Clarendon County public schools and was a member of Fourth Crossroad Baptist Church. She was a supervisor at Jomac Textile Co. and a machine operator at Pilgrim's Pride.

Survivors include a son, Jamane Pearson of Atlanta; two daughters, Jestean D. (Alvin) Hall of Atlanta and Pam G. Pearson of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Leonard Pearson of Manning; a sister, Birdie Pearson of Manning; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at Fourth Crossroad Baptist Church, Manning, with the Rev. G.K. Carter, pastor, officiating, assisted by Apostle Dorothy Blanding and Archbishop Griffin. Interment followed at Carolina Johnson Cemetery, Davis Station.

The family received friends at the home, 1053 Dommel Drive, Summerton.
