Shooting suspect faces 4th murder charge after infant dies

The man suspected in a shooting that killed a father and his two adult sons in November now faces an additional murder charge following the death of an infant on Monday.

Eugene Martin, 27, of North Salem Avenue, has now been charged with four counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder, said Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the Sumter Police Department. He was also charged with first-degree burglary, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and malicious injury to property.

The additional charge followed the death of Myles Marcus Davis, who was delivered early by an emergency surgery when his mother, Myra Davis, 21, was critically injured in the Nov. 10 shooting at a Marilyn Avenue home, McGirt said. Raymond Davis, 61, and his sons Randy Davis, 36, and Marcus Davis, 32, were killed by gunshots that same night.

The mother of the infant survived the gunfire and is continuing to recover, according to McGirt. Two other people were at the residence during the time of the shooting but were not injured.

Martin was taken into custody hours following the late-night incident and has remained at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.
