Tree seedlings available at special prices for landowners

COLUMBIA - The South Carolina Forestry Commission is encouraging landowners to place their tree seedling orders for winter planting while they are still available.

ArborGen's Taylor Nursery in Edgefield County has more than 750,000 seedlings left for sale at special South Carolina landowner pricing. These seedlings include containerized and bareroot varieties of genetically improved longleaf pine, a limited quantity of loblolly pine, Christmas tree selections and a large selection of hardwoods. Among the remaining hardwoods are nine oak species, dogwood, persimmon and crabapple.

"This is the second year of our partnership with ArborGen to operate and manage seedlings sales at Taylor Nursery," said Tim Adams, S.C. Forestry Commission resource Development Director. "Seedling sales are going well, but we still have a good supply of both hardwood and softwood selections. South Carolina landowners will benefit from reduced pricing negotiated by the S.C. Forestry Commission for seedlings being planted in the state."

The purpose of the Forestry Commission's seedling program is to provide a diverse selection of genetically improved seedlings to South Carolina landowners for timber and Christmas tree production as well as wildlife and wetland habitat improvements.

Contact Taylor Nursery at (803) 275-3578 to place an order, and be sure to ask for the South Carolina landowner pricing, which will only apply to the first 100,000 seedlings ordered annually by each qualified landowner. Landowners must plant the seedlings in South Carolina to be eligible for the special pricing.
