The Sumter Item's sports coverage changing due to coronavirus

Beginning on Thursday, March 19 and as a temporary measure until further notice, The Sumter Item will not have a regular sports section on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

This will allow us to devote more resources to important local news coverage, especially in the absence of local and national sports news during this time.

We will have a sports section on Wednesday and in the Weekend Edition, and any critical sports news will still be published in the daily newspaper.

We know how much many of you love sports, and especially local sports. We do, too. We look forward to it resuming.
