Two suspects in a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday, Aug. 4, are now facing additional charges.

According to Mark Bordeaux, public information officer for Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Terone McCray, 35, and Nia Wright, 28, have been charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle in addition to a murder charge.

The pair reportedly shot into the vehicle where JaQuen Marquell Jefferson, 32, was the passenger and another individual was the driver. The gunshot struck Jefferson, who later died at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, and missed the driver, Bordeaux said.

Both were arrested on Wednesday, Aug. 7. A judge denied their bond, and both are awaiting trial at Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention.
