The Sumter Police Department has a suspect in custody following a domestic-related assault that left one woman dead and another severely injured on Friday.
Mustafa Abdur Salaam, 51, of George Washington Boulevard, is accused of killing a woman and leaving another injured after he was identified leaving the scene in a black Toyota Scion, said Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the police department.
Officers were called to Chestnut Pointe apartments on Roxbury Court after 8:15 p.m. Friday regarding an assault.
One woman was found dead at the scene and another seriously wounded, McGirt said.
Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker said the name of the woman will not be announced until his family is notified.
Officers were also searching for two unidentified women with a child, who were reportedly at the apartment and seen leaving in a blue Infinity SUV with Georgia license plates. McGirt said those women were also located.
More information will be provided as it becomes available.
