SUSAN R. BRIGGS

Mrs. Susan Richardson Briggs, 98, widow of George Briggs, died Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Born March 14, 1912, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Henry Richardson Sr. and Susan Junior Richardson. She attended Clarendon County public schools and was a life member of Greater St. Phillip RMUE Church, Pinewood.

She was preceded in death by 10 siblings; and three children, Pernell Briggs Sr., Ruby M. Osbie and James L. Briggs Sr.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Camilla King Briggs; 11 grandchildren, Lorena J. (Larry) McLeod, Jerlean (Dan) Nelson, Rufus (Emma) Johnson, Deloris (Michael) Walters, James W. Osbie, Pernell Briggs, Linda B. (Wilbur) King, Georgia Mae Briggs, Afelia Ann Briggs, Kenneth Lee Briggs, and Beverly S. (Elijah) Briggs; 18 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held July 26 at Greater St. Phillip RMUE Church with the Rev. Daniel Green, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends at the home of Linda Briggs King, 1411 Dreamer Lane, Pinewood.

Community Funeral Home of Sumter handled arrangements.
