The superintendent's report, committee reports and further discussion and a vote on renaming two athletic facilities at Sumter High School in honor of former coaches highlight the Sumter school board's next meeting.

On Friday, a district staff member posted online for the public Sumter School District's Board of Trustees' work session agenda for Monday night at Wilder Elementary School.

The meeting will be new Superintendent William Wright Jr.'s third meeting with the trustees since beginning in his post on July 1.

Monday was the first day of school for students in the district.

At the June 13 board meeting, former Sumter High Principal Nicholas Pearson shared a request to the full board to rename the baseball bullpen and the athletic training room at the school in honor of long-time coaches Joe Norris and Gary Nelson, respectively.

This summer, the district received overwhelming support on the proposal from community members.

The full board is to discuss the item in executive session behind closed doors on Monday, per the agenda, and vote on the matter once returning to open session.

The trustees will also vote on various textbook adoptions, the personnel report and on the district's Minority Business Enterprise Utilization Plan for this fiscal year, according to the agenda.

Like all board-related meetings, the work session is open to the public, and the public is invited to attend. However, because it's the board's monthly work session, public participation is not on the agenda. Monday's meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at Wilder Elementary, 975 S. Main St.

For those not physically attending, the district continues to broadcast meetings live on YouTube.

Anyone wanting to attend the meeting virtually can do so via YouTube Sumter School District Board Meeting and the district's Facebook page, @SumterSCSchools.
