An annual outdoors celebration of local art is the latest event in Sumter to be put on the chopping block this year because of COVID-19 concerns.
The Heart of Sumter Neighborhood Association announced Monday it canceled Art in the Park, scheduled for September.
Held now for more than a decade, artists showcasing a range of mediums, food, performances and activities for children bring visitors each fall to Memorial Park in the historic residential district in downtown Sumter.
An emailed announcement from the neighborhood association, which has a six-person committee that organizes the event each year, detailed the festival will not be rescheduled in 2020, with a return date for what will be the 14th-annual rendition set for Sept. 18, 2021.
