Sumter woman dies in vehicle versus pedestrian wreck

Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker released the name of the individual who died in a vehicle vs pedestrian wreck on Monday, June 10.

Candice Dicks, 31, of Sumter, was taken to Prisma Health Richland in Columbia where she died from injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle, according to Baker.

The wreck occurred at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, along U.S. 401 near Farmingdale Road, approximately two miles west of Mayesville. South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper Gary Miller said the driver of a 2018 GMC Pickup was traveling south on U.S. 401 when the vehicle struck Dicks who was in the roadway.

Next of kin has been notified and an autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday, June 13, at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

An investigation is ongoing by Sumter County Coroner’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol.
