Sumter woman dies after house fire on Kolb Road

Sumter County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal fire on Kolb Road that occurred Thursday, May 23.

At about 8:30 p.m., Sumter firefighters responded to a call of a fire in the 2200 block of Kolb Road. Initial reports stated there were no occupants in the home, according to Division Chief Jeffery Shirley.

The first fire units arrived within five minutes to find one occupant still inside. After search efforts were conducted, firefighters located 67-year-old Thommie Jackson and removed her from the home, Shirley said. Sumter Coroner Robbie Baker said Jackson died from her injuries Thursday evening.

Next of kin of has been notified and an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
